In order to transform the healthcare industry, it is imperative that we focus on three interdependent components: care delivery, payment models, and transparency. Payment transformation is a key element of healthcare improvement. The present payment system, which rewards providers for over-utilization, is seriously flawed. The more procedures we do or patients we see, the more we get paid. There is no consideration for quality or overall health outcomes. If we had a payment system that rewarded health outcomes, the delivery of care would radically shift our emphasis to prevention instead of sickness care. There would be intense efforts to prevent hospitalizations and focus on educating patients about health risk and self-care.

CHVN Member Highlight:
Catalysis Healthcare Value Network member, Nemours Children's Hospital, began working to improve their revenue cycle in 2015. The work included focusing on family financial readiness and training their staff on terms and tools available to assist staff.
Since their improvement event, Nemours Children's Hospital has realized a 12% increase in average daily collections, equating to $3.9 M from 2015 to 2016. They continue to see increases in the amount of cash collected year over year.
3P the Clinic of the Future at the 9th Annual
Lean Healthcare Transformation Summit
Being charged with the task to design a new clinic of the future, HealthEast Care System engaged with experts in the Catalysis Healthcare Value Network to achieve the ideal state for quality and cost targets with a 3P methodology of design.
 
The story of this cross-functional team of clinical staff, space planners, architects, IT, quality and process engineers utilizing 3P and lean principles will be shared at the Summit, June 14-15 in Chicago.
