Newsletter: How to Maximize Your Improvement Team

Posted on by CATALYSIS

The role of the improvement team changes as an organization progresses on the journey to cultural transformation. In the beginning they are the teachers of the lean tools and then become improvement system stewards and coaches.
Catalysis has developed a workshop to help you maximize your improvement team.
"Think of the improvement team as the bloodstream of the organization. People move through the team acquiring knowledge the way blood acquires oxygen. These new lean thinkers are then spread through the organization and bring a specific kind of energy to the front line."

CHVN Member Highlight: BJC Healthcare
BJC Healthcare was able to reduce weekly scheduling errors in their Pulmonary Rehab and Transplant Services from 15% weekly to 3% weekly. Work on their scheduling process allowed them to better serve their patients and make the best of limited resources like the therapists and time.

BJC Healthcare has been a member of the Catalysis Healthcare Value Network (CHVN) since 2011. Since then, the organization has received multiple quality awards and national presentations as a result of continuous improvement efforts.

As a member of CHVN, they learn, share, and connect with healthcare organizations from across the country as they strive to improve value to their patients.
How to Drive and Sustain Long Term Results
Kim Barnas, President at Catalysis shares advice on driving and sustaining results:
  • Lean methods and systems start at the top and are rooted in values, principles, and behaviors
  • Together, effective leadership, lean principles and tools, and a lean management system create a lean operating system
  • Leaders must create behavior change at every level of the organization to benefit from sustained operating improvements
  • Educate the board of directors to generate long term support for organizational change
