The Ohio State University and ThedaCare Center for Healthcare Value partner on research
The Center for Lean Healthcare Research (CLHR) is a formalization of work that has been going on informally for the last two years. Involving healthcare researchers at some of America's most prestigious academic institutions, the CLHR will focus on scientific study of the lean methodology applied to healthcare. Sharon Schweikhart, associate professor and director of the Master’s in Health Administration program at Ohio State, has been appointed director of the center.
There are many case studies of healthcare organizations applying lean to improve the quality and cost of healthcare. The CLHR will allow us to study exactly what works and how to apply lean across the entire healthcare industry.
We are grateful to UL (Underwriters Laboratories) for a substantial grant which allowed the CLHR to be established. We also are grateful to the many researchers who have been participating on multiple conference calls for the last two years to help define important hypotheses for testing as well as defining how to measure improvements related to lean implementation.
Researchers from the following institutions have been involved since 2011.
