Planning Session – Key Operational Initiatives

Are your managers and frontline teams feeling overwhelmed while they try to balance their daily work of taking care of patients with strategic and operational initiatives coming down from senior leadership? Is your organization meeting its stated goals?

During challenging times, it is tempting to attempt to multiply organization-wide efforts. However, attempting to accomplish too much at once can be counterproductive, resulting in reduced focus and overburden for employees. This one-day session, held onsite for your organization, follows the Strategic Prioritization & Deselection planning session or builds on existing work to define True North metrics and strategic priorities. During the course executive team members develop and utilize a ranking system to prioritize all current operational initiatives they have generated through current business and operational plans.  Each initiative is evaluated through the filter, assessed for resource requirement, and placed in the corresponding part of the work wait framework. The work wait board allows for the visual representation of the relationship between True North, breakthrough strategic initiatives, organization-wide actions, system resources, and key operational initiatives.  The resulting framework serves as a visual management tool for Key Operational Initiatives.

At the end of the session, participants will have developed the following:

  • A filter instrument to prioritize operational initiatives
  • A practice of ‘catchball’ to be used in the prioritization process.
  • A framework to support the ongoing process of managing operational initiatives.
  • An action plan for next steps.
